Yesterday and today have been very slow-moving, relaxing days.
I was supposed to meet someone yesterday in the afternoon but they dogged me. Dammit.
So I ended up cooking for myself in lieu of going out and eating. Quasi fried rice and pork loin katsu. (this sounds better in Japanese, lol)
Oh – the night before, I bought the cheapest drink in the nearest machine to my house. It said soda water so I swore all the way home. But when I opened it, I found it was not like the shitty disgusting sour soda water in Australia – it was slightly sweet and tasted nice. It was labeled as cider too though. But anyway the slogan written on it deserves a special mention; it’s so fine.
In the evening, I met up with Youko although I was really late. We just hung around Ikebukuro and had a light dinner at Saizeriya. We sat around and caught up, and then she went home.
I didn’t want to go straight home, so I bought a drink at my local McDonalds and spent almost 2 hours there watching Gokusen 3 episodes on my iPod. I’m loving it! (the Gokusen, not the McDonalds.)
Then today, I woke up early but still missed the English church service because I was chatting to Chris Lam. Oh, and I ate breakfast for once. Two days in a row, WOW!
Why am I eating sushi for breakfast? Is it because I’m in Japan? O.O
No, it’s because if you go to a supermarket later in the evening, they will be selling bento boxes and what not for 1/3 of the original price. And I can’t resist a bargain because I have Asian blood…
Anyway I decided to go to the Spanish mass. I walked through pouring rain to get to my station, and again from the station to the church. However, I fell in love with the church – it’s really beautiful. It’s also right next to Sophia University. Anyway, the mass was easier to follow that I thought – they even gave me a book to read from if I didn’t know the prayers in Spanish.
Afterwards I went to Shibuya and blew $440 on glasses. They suit me (I hope so – it took like an hour to pick them out) and they’re RayBan. I also got thinner lenses on the glasses which cost a little extra. Although, in my opinion $440 was a bit much… The saleswoman kept switching to English which was very nice of her, except slightly misguided. For example, she asked me “how much do you want to buy?” when she meant “how much do you want to spend?” AND I get the feeling she was Chinese.
Afterwards I checked out Zenmall, another store that has larger sizes. Now this was really depressing – everyone else in the store was really large. Like, I know I’m fat, but those other guys were pretty shocking. And all Japanese too – I was expecting there to be tall/fat foreigners… If you’ve seen Gokusen 1… or 2 or 3 I suppose, the guys in there were the size of Kumai-kun. Except the salesguy – he was this tiny Japanese guy wearing skinnies. The kind I could snap in half by accident.
Oh – and I experienced my first, er, cultural faux pas today. As I stepped into the dressing room the guy was like “WAAA shoes no no”. And I was kinda in shock, so I went off at him – “don’t treat me like a fucking foreigner because I look like one, if you want to be understood, you can speak Japanese thank-you-very-much.” I think I pissed him off – I don’t care. I bought a pair of shorts with this white n’ metal belt. Not exactly my style but it’ll do – I hate wearing jeans in hot weather here; they tend to stick to me…
I was drenched by this point, and only now did I decide to buy an umbrella. TOO LATE – my nose is runny already. I’m such an idiot. I had some gyuu-don (strips of beef over rice) at Yoshinoya and then cancelled on the friend I was supposed to meet this evening and opted to go home instead and lie down. As I got home I checked my mailbox (note – it took me like 2 days to operate the safe that opens my letterbox) and I’d received one of the CDs I’d bought for Hag, as well as the DVD I bought (Kage Hinata ni Saku). It turns out that the DVD I bought was the “Making of…” DVD and not the movie. That would make sense, as the movie is relatively new. Except when I went to watch this DVD whilst being shitty at myself for not reading the description on amazon.co.jp correctly, I found that it explained the characters to me and… well it wasn’t half bad. I no longer regret buying it. Isn’t that nice 🙂
NOW! I won’t leave again today so I’m going to cook myself something later. My head kinda hurts at the moment…

=O Buy me something Kuu chann!!
