This evening can be summed up in four letters! O M F G.
But I’ll start with the day first.
So I left late in the afternoon so go to Roppongi (again) to try to find the beautiful light show that Jason saw in January. Walked down to Nakano-Sakaue station and hopped onto a train. Got off at Shinjuku before realising that I’d once again taken the long way to Roppongi. Stupid boy, why change trains if you can stay on the one train to go there??? Baka.
Anyway I got there and had a walk around Roppongi Hills. The place does not interest me in the slightest as everything is ridiculously expensive (see June’s comment on an earlier post) however I love the look of it. Very very sexy buildings… 😉 Very artsy sculptures and what not in the area – like the spider below. The second shot was a random shot; I wanted to capture the building on the left, but I couldn’t stand at such a distance that I could capture the whole thing – it’s massive!
There was also an area that was blocked off for cafe patrons and tv asahi staff only. However, I stood on the stairs above the area and took a photo of the massive TV. I bought a Dr Pepper and sat down around the corner. I happened to turn around and there were these massive numbers on the wall. They looked printed or painted on or something, so I didn’t think anything of it. When I turned around again, they had changed. So I figured I was getting tired… (and not the more obvious explanation – that it was all projected.
Afterwards, I went back towards the station, stopping to finish the Dr Pepper as I felt unco walking with a can in my hand. I happened to be standing outside a “Sensual Massage Parlour”, which I took to mean “brothel”. As if reading my mind, the big neon LCD screen outside spelled out a whole bunch of crap in Japanese; the interesting thing was that they had certain English words phonetically transcribed into Japanese. The one that hit me was “suratto”… which I can only imagine is supposed to be “sluts”? Don’t they mean masseuses? Bwahahah…
I called Jason to ask how to get to his sea of lights and he gave me directions. Eventually I found the place, so I walked around looking for pretty lights. I couldn’t find any, but it wasn’t dark yet, so I decided I’d sit around and chill while waiting. Eventually it became dark and I felt refreshed, but still no lights. I asked a policeman who happened to be on patrol what happened to the pretty lights, and he said that they were a seasonal occurrence… 🙁 I’m cut.
While I was sitting around, I was bored… so I turned the ISO down all the way on my camera and shook it whilst taking photos…
Afterwards I trained it back to Shinjuku as I had to do something, but I was really tired and so I forgot what it was (I later remembered I wanted to go get some prescription lenses made, and buy some hair mousse or something from DQ. Far out..) I walked back to Nakano and had dinner at Saizeriya… this is where the OMFG comes in. So I ordered a mixed grill plate with rice, which wasn’t too bad. Along with unlimited softdrink, it cost around Â¥900.
Anyway, the OMFG moment happened a little later, after the meal was over. I found myself absolutely exhausted and my legs hurt so much that I was limping (lesson to be learned – stop being a cheapskate and just take the train home instead of walking). I refilled my glass, then without looking or paying any attention I turned around to walk back to my seat…
…and effectively knocked over, yes, completely knocked over the waiter behind me who had a tray with 3 coffees, which promptly spilled all over him. And the cups broke too. And he was on the ground and my eyes widened and everyone was looking at me and I freaked out!!!! and…
Rik: (OMG) AAAAAAA HONTOU NI HONTOU NI MOUSHIWAKE NAINDESU!!!! GOMEN NASAI GOMEN SUMIMASEN!! [4 diff ways to say sorry, one after the other]
The part that made me OMFG:
Waiter: <jumps off the ground and bows deeply> It’s me who should be sorry, that was my fault, I’m so sorry, are YOU okay? I’m terribly sorry Sir, very very truly sorry, (etc).
I just kept bowing and avoiding the gaze of all the people in the restaurant. As I was leaving the guy mentioned giving me the meal for free but I refused, and tipped him whilst apologizing profusely again. My face must have been red.
Anyway I need sleep soon, I think I’m going to soak my feet as I think the right one is swelling a little bit. I feel a slight throbbing also… =\
Hopefully going to meet Ayako tomorrow evening for dinner. Exciting 🙂
